Get a great used car and drive green with the Toyota Prius

My first brand new car was a pickup truck. Driving off the lot with that metallic blue beauty was one of the happiest days of my life. That is until the first time I had to fill the twenty eight gallon fuel tank at four fifty per gallon. As I’ve mentioned before my sister’s boyfriend drives a Prius in Chicago. 2010 Prius owners like him have to be so happy to only spend twenty bucks per month on gasoline.

The first time he told me what he spends monthly I just stared at him like an idiot. I spend more a month on milk than he spends on gas. He drives just as much if not more than me, with a lot of it sitting around at stoplights. The Prius to some still has a negative connotation when brought up, but there are simple truths that no one in their right mind could argue. For my aunt in Chicago, new Rav4 shopping has been her latest past time.

Don’t get me wrong I drive a pretty sweet car and get thirty six miles to the gallon, but it comes off as a far cry from one hundred. If I didn’t fear what a Prius could do to my reputation I would most certainly own one. My job is to drive around town all day, all week, and all year. In the first year of my new car I put nearly thirty five thousand miles on it. The major problem with that is I’ll have worn out the vehicle before I pay the silly thing off. I’m going to assume no one is going to be in the market for a four year old car that doesn’t run and the tires are ready to fall off. Now I know.

Still, for anyone in the used car market the time of never finding the Prius anywhere is long over. Nowadays you can find fleets of them on lots that don’t even say Toyota. One of the most popular cars in America now, it would be nice if some of the other auto makers would catch up to the curve.
