Ahh the age-old question: What do women want? In a car that is. Women are pretty level-headed and smart. Being a woman myself, I say that with confidence. A recent study shows that most women like their cars small, inexpensive, foreign and hot. One may ask “why would someone do a study on what women want in a car? Most women know very little about cars”. WRONG. Researchers have concluded that women are directly responsible for 45 percent of new car purchases, and have input into 80 percent. So, despite generations of juvenile taunts, automakers today want to build chick cars — it’s where the money is. During this study they found that women lean more towards crossovers and small compact SUVs. Other popular cars for women include the Chicago 2010 Prius and the Toyota Matrix. The Prius is an obvious choice for its ground breaking hybrid technology and great overall design.
Chicago Matrix dealers are aware of the impact women have when looking for a new family vehicle and that’s why these cars are so female friendly. Women are also very conscious of how they spend their money. You won’t find many Mercedes or BMWs on this list. In fact the only luxury brand you will find here is Lexus. In fact, in most cases women choose cars that are below $30,000. Women tend to purchase anything from Toyota, Nissan, Kia and even some Volvos.
Which brings me to my next point: Women love foreign cars. Of the ten brands women were most likely to buy in TrueCar.com’s study, not one was domestic. Asian automakers seem to have special insight into the mind of the American female, taking nine of the top ten slots. In another survey in 70 percent of cases women tend to like the cabin warmer than men, and when it comes down to it the women usually win that argument. Now it’s one thing for what women want in their own car but it’s completely different in what they want in their partner’s. Just because I zip around town in a Chicago 2010 Prius doesn’t mean I think you should. Women tend to be more attracted to men in bigger and more expensive vehicles. Go figure.
